Did you know that National Margarita Day is soon? It’s true! February 22nd marks a holiday to celebrate this famous drink.
The Complicated History Of The Margarita
Although the Margarita is a well-known drink today, it wasn’t always so. However, there is much debate as to the origin of the margarita. Three different people claim to have invented the Margarita. Carlos “Danny” Herrera claimed to have invented the drink in 1938 when he mixed the cocktail for a Broadway dancer who was allergic to some spirits. Since she wasn’t allergic to tequila, the drink was perfect for her.
However, Francisco “Pancho” Morales claims to have invented the drink first. His first time mixing the drink was in 1942 in Juárez, Mexico. Even later, a Dallas, TX citizen by the name of Margarita Sames thought she’d created the drink in 1948 at a party attended by Tommy Hilton.
Regardless of who first created the drink, however, the drink’s popularity has only grown since!
